Some perks of growing older include terrific deals and discounts. Some of these deals start as young as 50 years. Even baby boomers will be wise to begin asking when and if senior discounts, like those following, apply to them.
A Lifetime Senior Pass costs only $10 (regular price: $80 annually). Amazingly, this $10 deal buys a lifetime of natural enjoyment for U.S. citizens or permanent residents age 62 or over.
The pass grants access to, and use of, Federal recreation sites charging an Entrance or Standard Amenity fee. The pass admits the pass holder plus 3 adults to Federal recreation sites that charge an Entrance or Standard Amenity fee (Children under 16 are admitted free). The America the Beautiful Senior Pass also provides a 50% discount (to the pass holder only) on some "Expanded Amenity Fees," such as camping, swimming, boat launch, and specialized interpretive services.
Previous National Parks Passes, Golden Access and Golden Age Passports will still be honored. Only paper Golden Age and Access Passports may be exchanged free of charge for new plastic passes mentioned earlier.
(Free lifetime passes are available for U.S. citizens or permanent residents with documented permanent disabilities.)
Many people don’t know that banks often give special deals and discounts to those 50+. Possible benefits may include free or discounted checks, preferred rates on certain loans and lines of credit, unlimited check writing and free or discounted identity protection.
One should ask at one's own financial institution and also consider the Bank of America Advantage for Seniors (55+), SunTrust Select 50 Checking (50+), and Wachovia Crown Classic Banking and Access Fifty Checking (50+).
It is a good idea to call stores ahead of time, as policies may vary. One must often ask to get discounts.
Many travel discounts may be found using AAA or AARP cards.
Please check all the above discounts, as they may change or vary by area. Also see Retirement Planning for Seniors.
The moral of the story is always ask for a discount. Age and wisdom should be honored and all those deserving of a deal should be able to use it to save money.
